Stock SH4, including 1.5, does not have snorkels. Some mods have been attempted to correct this. Lurker's Operation Monsun mod has several U-boats with working snorkels. I believe CO2 will still build, but you can run your diesels and charge batteries while submergeed with that mod as I recall.

That's the only gripe I have with the modded snorkel. With CO2 buildup still a worry, that practically defeats the entire purpose of the snorkel. I hope the modders can fix it eventually.

This thing is definetly not modable.

I read books and articles and I wondered.
The Kaleun's often had to surface all two days, because of the worse air in the uboat.
Although the Diesels draw a lot of air, there was not a very good air exchange.
Maybe, a bold suppostition, the devs wanted to simulate that problem.

I don't know wether this is a 100% correct information, but it helped me to calm down

Funny is that some patch of SH3 removed the need to surface while snorkeling.
So that means that SH4 is based on version 1.0 of SH3???:hmm:
