Default A-10 video tribute

Watching some of the other videos on Military.com, and the A-10 is always one of my favorites!

The A-10 was a wonder to work on too. That was one well designed weapon system. It was big and ugly but it got its job done.

I hope it does not go out of service as I don't know if we could design an aircraft this good any more due to mission creep.

A-10 "Go ugly early"

I hope they don't cancel it either. Its big, ugly, and effective. The F-35 cannot do its job - period. The A-10 has got a new lease on life though due to its incredible usefulness in Iraq and Afganistan. You cannot do what it does with an F-16!

In the 1980's we lost a lot of F-16s in the Utah desert because some idiot thought that the F-16 could do close ground support.

Oh they got close to the ground alright. In 1982 one half of all the F-16 crashes were at the UTTR. I scraped up way too many Americans out there.

The A-10 is an excellent example of a weapon system designed for one mission. It is a one-trick pony but it does that one trick very very very well.

There is nothing wrong with specialized mission aircraft. Unfortunately due to mission creep, contemporary aircraft have to be multi-mission despite the incompatible requirements. We end up with very versatile aircraft that can do an "OK" job for many missions.

The A-10's mission is to destroy things on the ground. To literally make tanks go away....and bring the pilot back alive.

Those are two pretty good missions in my book

Be kinda cool if an updated FlightSim were made for the A-10

I played them all in the past! I wish a new one would come out too! You can make Falcon 4 AF do an A-10, but its tricky. I'd rather have a dedicated sim.

The A-10 is one of the most beautiful planes ever made. Period. I don't care what anybody says; it is not ugly. Every bit of it screams function. The A-10 is a shining example of function over form, but in so doing they created something truly magnificent.

I, too, wish there was a dedicated A-10 sim out there. I know you can fly one in Lock On, but I don't want that game. Back in the day I was SO looking forward to Jane's A-10 game but that was sadly canned. The only A-10 game I ever played was Sierra's Silent Thunder: A-10 Tank Killer II. I loved it at the time. Dodging SAMs, killing tanks and APCs, shooting vehicles. You had an objective every mission, but once done you could fly around and just blow stuff up. Every mission also had a special white car you could kill. If you killed them all there was some sort of easter egg at the end of the game. I never got all the white cars, so I can't really say what it was.

Hmm - Maybe I missed that one. I thought i picked up every A-10 sim since the 1980's.

Its on Cnet for free, so I'll check it - http://www.download.com/A-10-Cuba/30...-10004349.html

The more I look at it, I think I've played this! Its been so long though!

Look real carefully at A-10 cuba. the graphics aint too swell and the game play is strictly non-campaign single missions.

Looking at the screenshots, I don't ever remember SU-27's being in my A-10 games, so I probably missed this one.

It's too bad that it didn't include any GW1 footage. Good otherwise.
