Default Houston doctors say they may have found a way to destroy HIV

Oh HELL yes!! If this ends up to be true it will mean we can end this monster like the monsters of the past!

Houston doctors say they may have found a way to destroy HIV

Quote:
“We have found an innovative way to kill the virus by finding this small region of HIV that is unchangeable,” Dr. Sudhir Paul of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston said.

Isn't it nice that when we decide to work towards a problem rather than stay addicted to what keeps it in check we can solve almost anything?

First the EEstor announcement for energy storage and now this for healthcare! FINALLY some good news!

If it does work, it will be a great step forward, but untill the time the it's proven and can be used by the public, it's best to stick to the methods of avoiding getting infected full stop.

In other related news I consider this remarkable but why didn't we focus more research on Heart Disease first? It kills far more people than aids each year and heart disease patients generally didn't make some poor choices that led to them being affected by it. I'm actually a little miffed that at many points in recent history concern for AIDS ahs eclipsed that over heart disease and cancer. Of course, any disease that kills people is deserving of attention but AIDS seems to have gotten more than its' fair share.
Nonetheless, I am quite excited and hope this breakthrough leads to the elimination of AIDS. It may not be the leading killer but progress against it is auspicious for other "incureable" disease reasearch.

Can i take a guess USLC and say its because HIV/aids is caused by one thing, whereas heart disease etc can be brought on by a number of factors?

Well, there are many causes of heart disease that are easy to avoid, and are common knowledge. AIDS is an extremely new problem, and one that has grown astoundingly quickly in the last 10-15 years. AIDS/HIV can be transmitted between people, whereas heart disease tends to be down to one's personal choices/luck.
Not saying that there should be an unequal focus, but there are dangerous unknown facets to HIV that don't have true parallels with heart disease.
This should all be taken with the a grain of overpopulation salt :p

Just some weeks ago some major pharmaceutical corporation - forgot which one - declared they considered any furthe rresearch into AIDS as a waste of money, and fruitless.

I like the points made thus far about why AIDS research at least as justifiable as heart disease research. Not totally convinced the money couldn't be better spent elsewhere, but I'm thinking about it.

If there is ever a cure, I will be surprised if it is cheep.

If life where a thing that money could buy,
the poor would not live and the rich would not die.

It will be nice if this also improves our battle against other viruses.
