not letting me have upgrades

After returning from my 5th patrol as commander of the USS Nautilus, and bringing home 30,258 tonnes of enemy shipping sunk ( a very good result) I was awarded the Medal of Honor for my efforts

Also, I was offered command of a new Gato class boat, which I promptly accepted. however, I want to put radar and such onto the boat, but its telling me "that upgrade package is not avaliable for your boat" or something along those lines.

My new boat as a consequence doesn't have any form of radar on it at all.

Why has that happend?

EDIT: fixed it now. just needed to reload the game and it let me stick everything onto the boat. this thread can be closed/deleted.
