Default Question about aircraft range and airbases

I need to know the effective range of aircraft. Even an educated guess from experienced SHIV players would help me because I hardly ever play

Problem: My map generator can read airbases w/o problem but I need to know how far the airplanes operate, otherwise the information is not very good.

If you're interested in the progress you can download test data here (everything you need to view the map is included):

In the Land folder each airbase has a cfg
In cfg are airgroups
Depending on what airacraft in airgroup depend range ( each aircraft have range on own cfg in air folder )

Stock 1.5 LargeAirBaseUS

[AirGroup 2]
StartDate=19420602
EndDate=19440101
Squadron1Class=LBSUSSearchPlane- range in cfg is 2100 unsure whether mile or KM
Squadron1No=18
Squadron2Class=USHeavyBomber - range in cfg is 2100 unsure whether mile or KM
Squadron2No=12
Squadron3Class=USTorpedoBomber - range in cfg is 1200 unsure whether mile or KM
Squadron3No=6
Squadron4Class=USFighter- range in cfg is 600 unsure whether mile or KM
Squadron4No=6

So all depend on what in airgroup
Course mods have changed thoseairgroup and ranges

Hope that help

Thanks this will help, but is still not exact enough.

Because miles, kilometers makes a big difference of course. I also need to know if range means one way or two way. Otherwise if both uncertainties add up we could end up with a variation of 400% in the diameter, which in 2 dimensions is more like 1600%!

I still could set it to some fixed value depending on the type of airbase I think, but I will need councelling by some experienced players for this.

In more simple terms, if you look at my screen are the circles too small or too large? I already assume they are too small, but by how much?

I'm getting ready to head out for patrol, I'll stay surfaced and see if the aircraft range is close.

Edit:Explorer, are you just covering OM, and the uboats or are you also going to cover the Us caparison??

Any additional information about aircraft range is highly appreciated.

If everything goes according to plan, it should work with all mods / versions.

Here is a current version with 1000 km one way radius, campaign date is Jan 01 1942:

You see that the "Flying Tigers" or whatever it is that appears in India can hardly reach the coast with this radius. Does it mean radius must be larger?

OK
Using Spanish Atlantic mod

Shanghai airbase is LargeAirBaseJP ingame

LargeAirBaseJP ingame Cfg shows airgroup

[AirGroup 3]
StartDate=19420501
EndDate=19430801
Squadron1Class=A6M2Zero
Squadron1No=12
Squadron2Class=G4MBetty
Squadron2No=9
Squadron3Class=LBSH6K
Squadron3No=6
Squadron4Class=H8K
Squadron4No=3

Largest radius is H6K\H8K with 2000

ClassName=LBSH6K
3DModelFileName=data/Air/ALBS_H6K/ALBS_H6K
UnitType=304
MaxSpeed=185.000000
MinSpeed=60.000000
MaxRadius=2000 ;2500

Circle relate to largest radius and is in KM in mission editor ( hard to get exact measure )

So look like maxradius in KM

Hope helps

@Reise: Thank you that helps a lot. It never occured to me to use the mission editor ..

I think I will settle for 1000km, and wait at the same time for more user reports. Of course one could parse all airbase files (and check for plane types), but in the end isn't it more important to know the maximum area in the range of long range planes? Under the assumption the enemy could have them on any airfield? Especially as this is meant to give an intelligence report, not godlike information.

Compare now with the same area in TatukGIS, it seems the 1000 km radii I was experimenting with were spot on already!

Under the assumption that range is ~1000km, doesnt that make the bases in northern india / central china pretty pointless in vanilla SHIV

Stock radius way too big
Look H6K I posted
Now 2000 was 2500

MaxRadius=2000 ;2500

Many other aircraft have inflated radius too

G4M_Betty
MaxRadius=1200 ;2500

1200 in Spanish mod was 2500 in stock

Searchplane have high radius anyway as meant to be in air and search long time
Under 1000 is good for all fighter though but not searchplane or plane like Liberator

Just realized I made a mistake in my last posts, it should be 2000km according to your screen, not 1000km!

But I already checked 2000km is way too much that way Japanese aircover extends all the way into Australia.

So can we find a reasonable value, like 1200km radius or such?

For comparison, aircoverage with 2000km radius, way unrealistic imo:

This is a new variant with 1200 km radius now, date is 1.1.1943

As you say it not godlike but intel
Any figure open to debate

BTW
In RL both H6K and H8K had range over 6500 KM when overload

In SH3 SH3gen provide intel dependant on how much player want
From docked ship to known convoy movement
Taken from campaign file
Very good to play and simulate intel given

No airbase info in SH3Gen ( SH3 ) though so guess new for SH4
