Remakes usually arent that good. Just look for example the Halloween series' new additions, rubbish. Another good example is the remake of John Carpenter's 'Fog' one of my all time favorite horror movies, complete trash with it's teen actors straight from the "Dawson Creek's Actor School".

I was griping about remakes last week.

Not that its of any personal interest to me, but my girlfriend brought it to my attention that they made remake of the film Hairspray. So, they are now remaking films that were made less than 15 years ago! Is hollywood really that short on creativity!? They have already disgraced some of my favorite childhood shows with stupid, pathetic attempts at remakes (Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky & Hutch, Miami Vice)

The only remake im grateful for is I Am Legend (remake of Omega Man). It kicks Hestons ass.....

Except that Omega Man was a remake of The Last Man On Earth, starring Vincent Price. I've heard it was better than either of the remakes.

And Dowly mentioned John Carpenter. He did his own remake of The Thing, which was closer to the short story Who Goes There? than the original movie was.

What about the remakes of War Of The Worlds and Earth Versus The Flying Saucers (Independence Day) ?

Is that the one with Adrian Barbeau?

Gotta disagree. I like Will Smith, but I thought it was lame. But I thought that about the Heston one too. Guess I just didn't like the story all that much.

The original movie is near and dear to me. It was released the the day I was born. I have always wondered why I am such a Sci-Fi nut case.

Message to Gort: "Nickti, burabus, nicktoo". Gotta watch the original movie to understand that. "We came in peace, but these robots are our police force".

What? Independence Day was way better than Earth Versus The Flying Saucers Compare the scene in EvsFS where the scientist and his gf are driving the car looking up through the windshield at the saucer (off camera) with the scene in ID where Will Smith steps out for the paper...
