It's May 1943 and I visit the fjords of Alta. To my great surprise I encounter our navy fleet with two battleships and a cruiser plus lots of escorts.
What are they doing there? Are they part of an operation? |

The remaining big surface units of the german fleet were stationed from end of 1942 onwards in Norway permanently due to two reasons:
1.- The Atlantic was dominated by the allies and an exit there for commerce riding would have ended up in disaster. 2.- In Norway the german fleet could intercept or at least act as a menace for the convoys to the USSR, because the germans had their air bases in Norway closeby and the allies hadn't.
