So, what's their plan? To buy the slaves' freedom so they can be enslaved again or to send them to the U.S. or europe where they are enslaved to poverty?
Granted, the latter is more preferable in many instances but this clip highlights the problem with charitable, or worse, government sanctioned drives like this.
Take, for example, famine in Africa. Because they have received food for decades there are now more starving people there than ever. When you give starving people food they have kids that need more food. It's like the old axiom of "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime"
It may sound heartless but there is no practical quick-fix.

The 27 million would be a little more impressive to me if they made statistical comparisons and corrected for global population. There's more of everybody, of course there will be more people in slavery. 10 million in 500 million total people estimated in 1650 is a little more of a impact, than 27 million in 6.8 billion. Not to belittle their plight by any means, but the only solution would be creating an educated society with the infrastructure to support these people. That isn't going to come quickly, cheaply, easily, and in fact, it will probably get worse long before it gets better if oil replacement, even on a positive outlook, isn't found soon.
