Default A bungler question

Does anyone know what programs it take to model in DW? I have Gmax, but it's my impression that the graphic files in DW are some what compressed into one single file am I correct here?

The program itself doesnt matter much, you can use 3D Modells from 3dsMax, Maya and most likely GMax too ... BUT you need a converter to the j3d format used by SCS. The only known available converter is one for 3DSMax 3.1.

@oneshot

Okay at least I have the right main program then, but could you point me in the direction of a good converter then? All the ones I have been able to find are converters from x to j3d, not both ways

Unfortunatly I dont know of a converter from J3D to another format ... maybe SCS has something but as far as I know they haven't released anything in that regard. Aside from that, why would you need one anyway? I suppose you wanna get your models in the game and not use the mostly crappy ones from the game.

Exactly! I couldn't have put it better myself. Inspired by the Alpha Tau mod, I'm especially interested in making new models based on the ones in the game since I am a total newbie with modelling....not that I in any way think that those guys are newbies, but I've seen what wonders they've been able to make. One thing that really annoyes me, apart from scripted mission outlay, is the focus on either submarines or frigates only, I would like to see more smaller surface crafts like corvettes for example and propelled by diesel electric systems ....just a thought. Anyway, yes I certainly want to get the models into the game if I ever succeed in solving this mystery :hmm: why does everything always have to be so complicated
