Default Terror close to home?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/7426562.stm

hehe, about 10 years ago myself and several mates were in the middle of leicester one afternoon following a band rehearsal. In the 2 weeks prior to the day in question, there had been at least 2 bomb threats to the town centre (ira related iirc) and the haymarket theatre.
As we were walking down the street, we noticed a suspicious, regular beeping sound from a near-by rubbish bin. We retired to the nearest boozer (about 30 yards away) to consider our position and eventually decided to call the police.

About 10 minutes later a worried looking copper came into the pub and told us that if we wanted to stay in the bar (concerning which we were all adamant to remain seated) we had to move away from the windows. Meanwhile they closed and evacuated several streets in the immediate vicinity pending the arrival of the bomb squad, who subsequently carried out a controlled detonation of a pager.

I have to say it was a 'grand day out' so to speak, and no sooner had we exited the pub following a refreshing repast of local brew, than we were set upon by a couple or reporters from our local rag who seemed to know who we all were...
My mate did all the talking, roughly outlining what we heard and did regarding the whole incident. The next day the poor chap was made to sound like a right knobber as the paper grossly misquoted him, making him out to be some über concerned patriotic citizen

I have the newspaper cutting somewhere. I seem to recall we were quite pleased to have brought the city centre to a complete standstill during the middle of the day, solely on the pretext of being a little concerned by a bin emitting an odd noise.

Ah, happy days... at least we only had to wait in the snug, not out in the rain with no beer and no seats.

You thought the media wouldn't put as much spin on it as they could to sell more papers??

Shame on you!
