Schnorchel & watchman

Wondering what some of you all do with overqualified Watchmen (w.o.'s) once you start spending most of the patrol using the Schnorchel?
I'm thinking Torpedoman, Machinist, Repair, and maybe another Medic.

Gunnery?

A qualified watchman/gunner/flak would be your "go too guy" for all surface engagements.

Or, forgo the flak (you shouldn't be taking on aircraft) and give him a nav specialty. Handy to have in the command room.

A swiss-army officer.

Yup I have one of those go to officers.

Suprisingly I used the 88 to finish a merchant on a last patrol in mid 44. One T-III Fat and a T-V I was out of fish and she was dead in the water but wouldn't go down. I agree - messing with aircraft unless it's a no choice option seems crazy. Wasn't long before 3-4 of `em show up.
