Default Got the other end of the spectrum...

Torpedoed a Motor torpedo Boat instead of that big battleship that everyone wants to get at.....

I'm on my second patrol(1st wartime patrol) in a VIIB in Sept. '39 south of Ireland. I'm hoping to ambush a inbound convoy but I'll be happy to get some loners. I've already had a pretty sucessful patrol with 5 ships sunk for over 20000 tons and I have about 6 torpedoes left.

My lookouts spot 2 warships approaching very fast and I'm looking for them thru the UZO and can't find them and finally see that they are motor torpedo boats. Boy, those things can get close fast.

I quickly disregard engaging them on the surface, not wanting a torpedo in my side and a shot up gun crew, so I turn away from them but one sights me and starts towards me. I dive to PD and watch him and wonder if those things carry DC's.
So for grins I thought I'd throw a torpedo his way at 0 AOB and about 600m range and see what happens and what do you know.....BOOM! I got him.
WHOO HOOO...a whopping 46 tons added to my credit.

I feel like I pretty much wasted a torpedo but it was a " :hmm: I wonder what will happen if I..." moment.

The other guy nosed around for a while and left. I wasn't about to waste another torpedo. I patrolled around for a little while longer and another 2 MTB's came around and I just left the area and am trying a lot further south, hopefully far enough away from those pesky things.

that poor wee torpedo boat!!!

an eel would cause one hell of an explosion on a boat that size

poor wee buggers on board must have S*** themselves when they saw the wake!!!

no wonder the other one didnt wait around long :rotfl:

ooh! that's unsporting, you're supposed to take them on with deckgun and flak and have your boat turned into swiss cheese in a few minutes....

obviously they didn't see the wake or an MTB would easily have avoided the eel, makes that explosion all the more shocking for never having seen it coming...

Those things are like mosquitos, always swarm around you and pester you. Once you hit one the result is not only gratifying but massive overkill. Long as you're submerged they're harmless, if you stick up your periscope too high they'll start straffing it and usually damage it. Otherwise if all they continue to do is circle around you they're acting as a beacon to any DD's or escorts in the area that there's something there to dump DC's on. Sometimes if you can hit a target a few thousand meters away with an electric that sinks the ship they'll disengage and go check it out, especially if its a big target. Also hope for bad weather, high waves and rain, makes it a bit easier to escape em.
