It would seem that the feds are using an awfully big hammer for a pretty small tack. What it appears to be is a couple of petty crooks making off with and fencing $70,000 worth of bronze thimbles about the size of the eraser on the end of a pencil. These things are easily made by the bazillions and it's hard to believe that they took enough to materially degrade the USA's military capabilities. Moreover, from the little detail there, there was never any intent to do so, either; all they wanted was easy money
One would think that a sabotage charge would be for things like blowing up an ammunition train or contaminating a massive fuel farm. Well, as they say, there's no kill like overkill. |

I thought the 7.62 round was no loner used, being superseded by the 5.56, or am I mistaken?

The 7.62x51mm round is still very much in use. For GPMG's, marksmens and sniper rifles.

Not only are they low-lifes for stealing war materials but they are not very smart
Stealing 16,528 pounds of stuff to sell for $78,838 only nets $4.77 per pound. Thats a lot to steal at 5 bucks per. Five bucks per pound with a risk of 30+ years in prison does not make a good business case to me. Glad these guys were caught and if guilty, I hope they spend a lot of time in prison. Not only for betraying our country in wartime but for being stupid. Stealing war materials while your country is fighting a war..... That is just wrong ![]()
