Congrats guys for your great job!
![]() Just 2 questions. 1. Do you actually play the game for fun or you just write mods and test them .. I am really curious. 2. In GWX 2.0 or 2.1 , do you get renown for reaching patrol grid and stay there for 24 hours? ![]()

i can assure you that these guys play the game... but not usully for "fun"
these guys (and gals) go out on patrols to hunt not merchants and warships, but instead to hunt problems. its time consuming difficult work. imagine going out on SH3 patrols literally for weeks on end just to find somethign wrong with a specific unit type. playing hundreds of patrols to diagnose a crash to desktop error. playing hundreds of missions to discover the reason why one type of unit sinks for no reason, or refuses to sink when attacked. hundreds of hours worth of driving around the atlantic and various ports searching for glitches. as for liesure, i dont thing the GWX modders have played SH3 very often for recreational purposes in at least 2 and a half years.

1 well, sure, yeah, but then I'm a tester, so playing the game is sort of my purpose...
![]() 2 no, if you feel your patrol grid is silly/not worth visiting, way out there, and you're short on time/sleep just go somewhere you feel like going and sink whatever plods along in front of your bow ![]() I recommend the Irish Sea, it's fun!! ![]() Edit: drat Rivet beat me to it, let me tell you about the ports he mentions, I've visited every one in the british isles in my uboat, even in 1944 when I went to check if the DDs did what they were supposed to be doing, I.E. sink me ![]() |

As a GWX tester I can say that for the past year even though the testing means all that GR mentioned above, it has also been a ton of fun as I've had a legitimate excuse to give my wife whenever I want to play SH3.
![]() I can't say that I've started a career that I've meant to "finish" and to be honest I can't remember how many patrols I've started and then just left mid <insert ocean/sea here> to go off and start another patrol looking for something that's not quite right. I do have to say that the dedication to the task of both the testing and modding teams is second to none and no stone or u-bat has been left unturned in the quest for accuracy and excellence. Possibly the most fun in the past couple of months was the instruction to go hunting ASW units, make some noise to attract them and then stay at PD to see if they would blow their stern's off with DC's. Patrol after patrol I'd go out find some escorts and savegame just before making noise then try different tactics to get to mess themselves up. ![]() The result, the modders got rid of two bugs that were annoying users for some time. ![]() |

The last time I played SHIII "for fun" was over a year ago. However, testing and understanding how the game is structured, and watching the amazing improvements developed by the GWX team was more enjoyable to me.
I haven't patrolled an area in so long, I don't know about renown; however, reaching and patrolling an area, and returning to base are covered in the GWX manual (p. 124).
