intercept course

I have noted that there are sound files for my navigator called "plotting intercept course" and "plotting search pattern" but when is it in use? does my navigator can make and intercept course to a ship for me?

He can plot a search pattern, but I've never heard a sound associated with it. For intercept courses AFAIK you're on your own there.
