Default tale of 5th patrol in USS Pickerel(SS-177)

Well after completing patrol of S. China Sea as instructed, I sent in a status update and they told me pretty much happy hunting wherever you decide to go. I decided to go port-hopping on the japenese mainland in search of the Notorious Yamato BB. I snuck into tokyo bay and searched Tokyo harbor, Chiba harbor, Kisarazu harbor, Kawasaki harbor, Yokohama harbor, and Yokusuka harbor finding nothing but merchant shipping and the occasional shore patrols(subchasers, gub boats, destroyers) but no "capital ships". Being disgusted with this I set my sights on Kobe harbor near Osaka harbor, last time I was there I thought i ran into a bunch of blue-saber wielding jedi. I arrived there in early may '42 and to my satisfaction found a nice grouping of big warships. I proceded in sinking a Kongo BB(32,000 tons), 2 Shokaku carriers(28,000 tons each), a Akisuki DD(2,701 tons) and sunk a sen-toku class submarine which I was not credited for.. I frigging watched it sink and put another two torps in her hoping she would explode in a violent rage, but nope. having expending all my torps, I sailed back to port. I got promoted to CMDR. and awarded the MOH.

This was my 5th patrol and have been awarded the bronze star twice and the MOH three times...they must like me or something. anyway...what I am getting at is I know the game is dynamic and ships spawn wherever the IJN wants them but does anyone know a good location to hunt a Yamato BB?

Happy Hunting!

Task forces are randomly spawned. Everyone seems to encounter that ship in different place and circumstances. I don't think there is a guarenteed location and time or everone would go there to earn their fins.

I am on my 4th patrol and have not sunk anything like a carrier or BB - only merchants and the odd destroyer that got in my way! :hmm:

On 5th or 6th patrol here, and I've spotted 2 Kongo BBs so far, but no Yamato and not any sort of CV

Some day...

I tried a quick mission/patrol hoping to satiate my appetite, was sent off in search of a Shokaku class carrier, but it was surrounded by a good 12 or 15 ships, and I was caught behind it...

I could've probably made my way ahead of the task group, but by then I would've been in pretty shallow waters...hopefully it's not a sign of things to come

You don't hunt the BB, you run into them.

Historically, the main IJN anchorage was at Hashirijima,in Hiroshima bay,and Kure, which is nearby. I snuck into Hiroshima Bay in 1944,and and popped a Kongo at anchor, and a Takao cruiser, but did not see a Yamato, but will go back again,ya just never know...
