Forgive me for not remembering the proper name now, I played this tour last week, but I believe these were Japanese heavy cruisers and started with a G?
Anyway, I found it interesting that I was able to keyhole one of them with a single torpedo (depth set to 19, point of impact roughly 2/3 to the aft, must have broke her spine.... not sure if I hit a fuel bunker or what). Then when I came upon a second battle group I kept after one and it wouldn't die. I hit it once and it steamed on unscathed. The second hit silenced engine 4 on the starboard side. She kept speeding along. I had to move off to evade destroyers, but came back about 40 minutes later. The heavy cruiser was moving slower than the pack and gradually trailing out behind them. Now I moved in and put a pair of fish (total 4 now into the starboard) and she remains floating. The engines are silent, the ship is listing so the main deck on the right side is awash and so is the aft end. The fire is hellish, but there doesn't seem to be any greater damage being done. The destroyers came back so I limped in under the behemoth hoping they may be dumb like typical ai and try to depth charge or bomb me while I'm with their friend. No luck. So I wait them all out again, move off and fire my 5th and 6th shot into the port side. All targets, intended or not, have been within the middle 50% of the ship. All depths have been 19, based on the stunning success on the prior cruiser. But I pumped 6 torps into that thing and it didn't die. It was a smoking wreck adrift on the sea, but it never sank. Those were my last torps and I was NOT about to trade deck gun rounds with a heavy cruiser. ![]() I thought it odd that I could be so fortunate with dumb luck the one time, and so entirely confounded on the next. And I DID put two torps into the exact same spot on the second cruiser that so effectively destroyed the first. |

What mods, if any, are you using? Sometimes you need to concentrate on one side of the ship so that the flooding causes a capsize; this seems to work well with larger warships.
By the way, 10 out of 10 for getting the word dichotomy into an internet forum! ![]() WB. |

At time there are exceptions like hitting a magazine and blowing the ship in half, but that doesn't happen that much. And like WhiskeyBravo commented what MODs you are running can make a difference. Of BTW thanks a lot, now I have to buy a dictionary to read the forums. ![]() And I am very sorry your chotomy died. I think some kind of medal is in order here. Anyone who can use the word Dichotomy in a Subsim forum deserves some kind of special recongnition. (of course what you will get is some harrassment, all in good fun!!) Peabody
