Default Question:How to increase submerged speed?

Need help from the modding gurus

I'm trying to make my sub go faster while submerged.
What files do I have to modify to accomplish that?

I'm looking for new ways to play the game.
(and to get past 1943) :rotfl:

Default How to up the speed

Hi

you will first need a program called s3d search and you should find it easy

then using this program goto dat/submarine andselect the boat file you want to edit then open the sim file. in it you will find the menues up up the surface and submerged speed

You can use Time Travelers' SH3 Inspector to mod your sub's speed as well as changing lots of other stuff. To mod a sub, launch the SH3 Inspector program. Then just click on 'SUBS', then choose your type of sub in the drop-down box, change the surface and/or submerged speeds to the speed's you'd like, and then click on the 'Save All Changes This Panel' button. When you start your game, it's off you go Mr. Blaze at warp speeds.

SH3 Inspector is easier to use than his MiniTweaker mod but MiniTweaker is more comprehensive (you can change more things). Another mod tool is S3D but that is for the heavy-duty moder because it is even less intuitive than MiniTweaker to run and you can really screw things up fast becuase it allows you to change *everything*.

Will try and experiment with both programs..
And with the detail of the instructions, nothing can go wrong. I'm so confident now that I might let Bernard do it for me :rotfl:
okay well maybe I go with the Inspector first.

Unlucky of me I havent been able to access the filefront servers for a few days, but will try searching the net.

I was wondering that if I change the speed of the submerged uboat with SH3 Inspector, do I have to change the other settings too? like horse power, eng rpm...
and what happens if I do?

You should be able to easily adjust it in the data/submarine files. Open the folder relevant to your sub and adjust the MaxSpeed and MaxSpeedSubmerged in the .cfg file.

If you set the speed high enough your boat will begin to act like a dolphin and jump in and out of the water, Mr. Fleck sent me the files for it. Be careful though, it's a pain in the ass to try to turn your boat at 200+knots, you'll send her into a spiral before you know it!!

The [Unit] section of the the config file does not change the Max speed. You have to mod the .SIM file to change max speed.

However, the [Properties] and [EngineProperties] sections do work. So that changing your Ahead Slow factor does work using the config file. It is one way to keep your RPM's below the 100 mark. Especially if you are going for realism. If a US Navy Captain tells the CE that when I call for 1 Bell Forward, I want 99 RPM on the screws, he'd better not run up 120 RPM, like my CE tried to do!

No, just changing the speed in inspector will do it. RPM affects the amount of noise you make for the AI. While I only played with this one once, I believe it changes your acceleration factor (how fast you get up to speed

Dropping your RPM number to 99 means that your going 99 RPM at maximum speed, making you virtually undetectable to the AI at Flank Speed. Unless you run into an escort that was already actively pinging away already.

If you want to test something, push the limits to see what effect changes make. For instance, on a type VIIC, change the submerged Max Speed to 50.0 and take the boat out on a single mission - a test drive of sort. See how she handles at each of the speeds. Gang from ahead Standard to Reverse Emergency and see how long it takes you to slow down. (Changing Max Speed doesn't change the drag coefficient and you will coast much farther now.)

Then abort the mission and lower the submerged RPM to 90. Play the same mission again but be more aggressive around the escorts. Find out if they can spot you at Ahead Standard.

Then play with Eng_Power if you want.

Thanks again, Bob chase.

What I'm trying to accomplish is that my submerged speed would be about 20 knots. And if I only change the speed attribute what would be my silent running speed?

I have to admit that I'm a bit lazy testing all kind of tweaks and my cpu aint that fast so it takes forever to load a mission.
