Default Iron cross for sinking German trawler

I was starting out my last patrol out of Wilhelmshaven.

To to a TC problem and my own ineptitude, I managed to rear end a German Trawler in the bay.

Hey! not my fault, I blew the horn!

While I received no damage, the trawler's butt end burst into flames.

Evidently Trawlers don't like being butt bumped and it sunk pretty fast.

Ut Oh, this aint gonna look to BDU.

So I decided to reload this mission and pay better attention to my TC.

I hit escape and ended my mission. At the end of mission screen I found out that I was awarded the Iron Cross Second Class. The patrol only lasted 30 minutes and resulted in my ramming a German ship and sinking it.

No negative renown and the Iron Cross. Boy does BDU not like German Trawlers or what?

I was surprised that my sub received no damage. I wonder if I can ram-sink british fishing boats and save the ammo? :rotfl:

I salute your bravery. You are a credit to the kreigsmarine and deserve the award fully.

You hit hard and you hit fast, crushing your victim. They never saw it coming.
Rarely does history produce such leaders that can achieve what you have done.

I've run into the same situation in regards to ramming other ships. One things I abhor is when your surfaced and DD's are close they stop shooting at you and instead use their ships as 1k ton battering rams. End result always seems to end up with my boat getting sunk, or sustaining serious damage.

On the flip side though, I've been inside a convoy (between the columns) and had the exact opposite happen (favorable outcome). The DD goes on its run to start dumping charges (always thought that was a bit unrealistic, the chance of friendly fire sinking the Troop Transport or Tanker is too high) and have succeeded in sinking the DD from it ramming into my conning tower (only possible X factor here is that I typically attack convoys at snorkel depth) without sustaining any or very minor damage. If you're perpendicular to the DD going over you good chance he'll scrape your tower and then get deep 6'd. Usually get no % dmg to hull, and only minor dmg to the tower (if any).

Perhaps fatassed Goring was on the trawler, and and BDU was rewarding your good judgement.

That Iron Cross is what they'll pin on your chest and use as a mark at your firing squad

...turns out J.S. Ballz and F. Von Titz were aboard the trawler signing autographs. BDU has given you the Iron Cross for "taking out the trash".
