[Idea/REQ] Allied XXI?

I know a lot of people here are fans of historical accuracy, so first I'd like to apologize to you: this will make no sense from your point of view.

But I'd like to play as an advanced sub, like the Walter boats or the Type XXI, on the Allied side. I like the Walter in U-Boat Missions and I love the conversion patch that makes it operate like a XXI. But I would love a chance to attack all those richly diverse Japanese warship classes with it; even with the ship additions from RSRD or other mods, there isn't that much Allied variety, esp. in the Indian Ocean. And really, it seems a waste to use the sexiest submarines to hit merchant ships! I want to sink Kido Butai!

So is there a way to convert the XVII or the XXI to work in the Allied campaign? Heck, to be really unhistorical, maybe let (as an option) people start in it early-mid war, when targets are rich and plentiful?

A more ambitious idea would be to model an American version of these - what if the designers had been Jewish and, like Einstein, left Germany in the '30s and worked with the US instead? Or the American submarine program had just received more attention and been more ambitious, more akin to its Cold War successor? Or maybe screw the justifications and just make the cool submarines. But we already have some great historical accuracy mods, and I'd love to see some more hypothetical stuff to play around with & add diversity now.

At the least, is there a very ad hoc way to do this by copy+pasting stuff between files? I'm afraid I know almost nothing of editing SH but this'd be an easy solution if someone can just tell me what I'd need to transfer over.
