Periscope: Information gatherer or aiming device?
I'm sorry to spam with basic questions, but I want to make sure I have the correct fundamental understanding of how things work.
Is the primary role of the periscope information gathering, as opposed to being an "aiming device" for the torpedoes? Am I correct in my thinking that it doesn't matter where the periscope is pointing once you've identified your target, input the range, AOB, speed and engaged the position keeper? Thus, the less the periscopes are used, the better, to reduce the chance of being detected. Assuming, of course, that I raise the scope to input that final range data before I fire the torps. Right?
