Default Sunk a Neutral

Well it was dark and it was in convoy and blacked out, so a legit target in my view. I know you get renown deducted for this transgression but is the amount of renown deducted linked to your realism setting like it is when you earn renown for sinking the enemy? I play at 69% realism and the neutral sunk was a small merchant worth 53.73 at this setting, so is that all that will be deducted or will I lose the full 70?

Thanks.

Oops, been there myself . Having said that, blacked out and in convoy deserves all it gets!

My understanding of the loss of renown is exactly as you describe i.e. the reduced amount not the 100% amount.

I'm sure someone who knows for sure will come along...

There was another thread asking the same thing. Someone replied and said you lose the same reknown that you would have gained if you had sunk the enemy. Lets say you sunk a Norway ship prior to them entering the war. All Norway ships would fire on you for about an hour.

Early in my career I sunk one of our own ships (unlit in heavy seas). As soon as I checked my map and realized my mistake I had two VIIC and a IIB trying to find me. I went to 512 T and got the heck out of there.

Thanks for the replies. It's not a big deal as I have had quite a sucessful patrol and have bagged over 75K tons of Allied shipping so the deducted renown won't dent my final renown award that much. I was just curious how SH3 handled negative renown.

Historically, Uboats have attacked on neutral ships purposely, even Swedish, due to neutral merchants being off neutral shipping routes, and probably carried some war materials to support Allied. I forgot some more reasons neutral ships sunk by Uboats purposely, you can check out some records of some famous kaleuns at uboat website. But in this game is limiting, I don't know if they can mod routes differently for neutral ships as if one get off the route, we can sink it and get credit for it.

Check the Basic.cfg file:

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=200
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200
CompletedPatrol=100
NEUTRAL=-1
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10

I changed NEUTRAL to '0'. That way if they're in convoy they don't hurt me, even if they don't help, but being worth nothing I'm still not tempted to go after the lone ones.

Been there, done that several times. Although most of them were legitimate targets in defence, as they were not lit up. so its there own fault
