Hey so i had the brilliant idea to go through the Panama Canal, but i was wondering to myself, is it really worth it. What lies beyond the Panama Canal; Gold, a Trade route to the Indies or Nothingness??????????????? I know the Allies used the Canal to bring ships from one ocean to the other, but is it used like that in the game? I would also like to visit the Port of Spain and all those lovely oil tankers there. So my question is, is it worth going to the Panama Canal and travelling through it to sink ships in the Pacific? or should i just go to Port of Spain and be the Pirates of the Caribean?

I'm assuming that if GWX put Allied-only canals like Panama and Suez in the game they went to some pains to defend them. You'll probably come under some coastal gun fire and air attack if you attempt to transit them. Not sure if there's any Pacific traffic to plunder either. Stop at Disney World in Orlando and do the pirate thing instead.

I tried it on the Colon side, just getting into the break wall is a pain, alot of patrol boats, then the creep threw the harbor, the the canal has gun implacements on each side and a sub net across the canal.Didnt try the chagras river but im sure the same goes for there and the Pacific side.Give it a try, just save before entering the break wall and let us know how u make out
The reason i tried is i was stationed at Ft Davis and was trying to see if i could get to the future location of our docks of the 1097th river raiders, called Dock 45.Not only that but i was thinking Gatun Lake might have some nice targets waiting to go threw the locks but never got that far.Would have been cool if they have put the sub nets at the lock entrance and put ships in the lake at the holding area so we could have snuck in for a nice attack. But oh well, guess in a game like this u could spend years and years makeing it authentic and still never get everything. |

Hi!
The Canal de Panamá is there but should be impenetrable to U-boats, as it was in real life. The main point of having the Canal is the City of Colón, which is an end point for convoys heading to and from the Caribbean ports, the U.S. Gulf and Atlantic coasts. Pablo

... not to mention the three sets of gates... It is impossible for a enemy sub to go through Panama. (unless you somehow find a way to piggyback a merchant going through the locks.) *think Millenium Falcon attached to the empire destroyer*

Bring back some nice shots of your crew sunbathing on the deck.
They'll be quite safe.....there's nothing out there to harm you other than sunburn ![]() |
