Cant get Red Alert 2 To work!

I've been trying to get this game to work yesterday for quiet some hours....

The installation goes perfect,
no errors.

but as soon as I start the game
I see the Red Alert start up screen...the whole screen goes black for 1 sec and I'm back to desktop....

now I really tried everything on the internet to make it work
patched it up, installed the game with both CD's
tried every compability (95, 98/Me, win2000)
no luck...I red that SP2 caused problems but my windows XP pro doesnt contain any updates nor service packs...

I was so much into picking a old game back to the surface to conquer the whole bunch...but my guess is that there is no way to get it work on my current rig.
dammit

Havent played the original RA2 on my rig, but I have the C&C Decadence and that packages RA2 works fine.

:hmm: could be, as my RA2 is the first release product....
lets check the local shop form a Pack or something like that...just been playing Tiberian Sun..and I can say the future doesnt look pretty for the GDI

I recently reinstalled RA2 with the YR expansion a couple weeks ago. With the announcement of Red Alert 3 I wanted to relive the glory days of smashing Allied units with my Apocalypse tanks.

This game will never get old. The graphics never get old. I got this game when it came out and the expansion when it came out. I can't believe RA2 is 8 years old and YR 7.

Yep, the graphics are superb for the game, and the campaign just rock

and the cutscenes are worth advancing the campaign for
