Genetics and cloning troubles... help the greenhorn!

The title sais it all... over the last 24 hours i have spend 7 trying to clone the german 34 type DD... but always make mistakes.

The final Question: wich method is most commonly used to clone/duplicate a ship?

The technique used:
get the Datnavigator tool
make a copy of the ship and rename the files.
load the DAT file into that tool (let it load, it takes some time)
grab all and any ID codes found by the program and note them down in a text file.
open the DAT in a Hexeditor.
look for the IDs noted down earlier, and replace them.
->the new ID is the same as the old one, except the first two and last two pieces, wich can, no, MUST be changed.
and so forth.

The *good* part is that i was able to export the OBJects of the German Type 34 DD and was also able to load them into a 3D editing program (wings3D) and i see that 3D editing is difficult, but possible.:hmm:
looks like fun!
All one needs is a few good Drawings and patience

So, is there an easier way to duplicate a ship? A quicker one?
I feel quite lost in all this.

It all depends on whether or not you got a good DNA sample from the sheep.

AH here comes my hero...

i also opened one of the four available pack3D JAR files and saw the CLONE button.
... but too afraid to push it, i might have screwed sumpthig up... AGAIN.

ARGH so easy...

as for the 3D part... i also opened the Stukas object files, when in was reading the tutorial by THE ORZEL... and i figure i can open all DAT files and convert them to OBJ.

and THAT again, is like openning a pandora box. Or going into the biggest library of the world...-> unlimited possibilities. mind boggling.
like i can open the GUNS dat, convert to OBJ, play around and fiddle?

modified Hull shape front and rear end
second gun on station Berta changed for a heavy AAA (plus security protection)
a twenty milimeter on the bow and between the two last big guns.
small boats placements changed
center gun stations are two twenties and two 37er AAA
getting rid of the two twenty mm cannons that are standing on the bow of the ship, just below the second cannon

the way is long - and i will have to learn what a node is (sort of a gunstation wghere i can put a Cannon, an AAA or a Wabo ?) and a LOT more.
I ordered two books on the subject yesterday, but the main work is on the PC.

I want the new DC yesterday too. I'd love to have DD vs sub again...and DD vs DD - that would be a hoot. Two years ago someone was working on that for DC, but it doesn't seem to have ever happened.

WHAT exactly is NOT possible?

Someone who does a S boot, and i heard a rumour about a Captain Class "Frigid"
a full DD concept is not too far off.

Possible? yes.
Workload? tremendous.
Wabos will possibly not be possible, nor will mines...
but have a proper Gunnery duel, defending the Channel Dashers...
would you say NO to that?
Having open up all the five inchers at long Range, and then the AAA joins in as the enemy gets closer...
Hell, man... NUTS!:p

Widen your Horizon some more and think Southsmpton Class Cruiser, K or Dido Class cruiser.
