Default Type 16

Apologies if this has been discussed before - did a search and couldn't find anything. Anyways...

Made it to 1945 - Asiatic Squadron. I'm back at Freemantle, notcied a new torpedo load-out - Mark 16 Hydrogeon peroxide torp.

The specs look good - but i'm kinda dubious about the accuracy. In Clay Blair's "Silent Victory" he gives a brief blurb that they did have about 50 of these manufactured before the Pearl Harbour attack . However, it looks like it was shelved in favour of more mainstream (and less dangerous to transport) models.

But now in '45 they show up? I grabbed a bunch to test them out on my next mission - anybody have any thoughts on their utility?

Anyways, wish me luck - next objective is to recon Singapore!!

Are you playing stock SH4 or with some mods added? I have not seen Mark 16 used for upgrades in stock UPC files although this type of torpedoes can be found in weaponary DAT files.

Just playing Stock SH4 - no mods or other addons other than patches applied.

So far they seem to work ok - took out a fast closing destroyer with one in a recon of Singapore

Mark 16s were never used during the war. Sounds like the devs left it in by default to show up in 1945. It had a range of 13,700(!) yards at 46 knots.

Nice that someone finally stumbled on this. I look forward to it. Nice reward for playing the game the way it was meant, following orders, getting results, and hanging in there to the end.
