Default Thermal layer?

Does the thermal layer vary by location and time of day? Or is it relatively static?

I remember in SH1 (SHCE), the given patrol either has a thermal layer or it didn't. Once checking and found, it was available for the rest of the patrol.

Thanks.

I think it's water temperature determined.

I can find it some days just under 100 feet and other days I have to go to 155 or slightly deeper.

It's a thermal layer the difference between water temps on the surface lit by the sun and the colder water that doesn't get that warming.

The depth also depends on what latituide you are at. The farther north, the deeper (I think).

Keep diving deeper until your crew wills let you know with the audio message "Passing thermal layer".

Just make mental note of it when they say it, because nothing actually records the depth.

A bathythermograph mod would be nice, eh?

You're kidding, right? SH1 had a bathythermograph, fer Chrissakes. [Me I'm waiting for a new comp to run SH4, hence my ignorance on this point] And now upon reading another thread I see that there's no screen for the SD radar. Hanh?

Call it a case of "the devs just used the radar model from SH3."

Not to mention, the SD radar in SH4 gives bearing information. Hmmpf...

Yeah. Not much thought was put into these features. Sort of thrown in at the last second.

I guess my crew threw it overboard or traded for an ice cream machine.
