Default Torps run deep?

Yesterday i attacked several ships(merchants as well as destroyers). Set the torpedo depth to 3 feet, but out of 8 torpedoes fired only one hit, 2 missed and the others just ran underneath the ships. Is this a common thing in early 1942? Am I doing something wrong or are the nips secretely using hovercrafts?

It is historically accurate. The Mk.14's ran around 10' deeper than set. This is of course in addition to faulty firing pin for the contact exploder, as well as the equally fouled up magnetic exploder. A result such as the one you experienced there isn't uncommon.

Another thing to note, some of the mods make adjustments to the dud rates. RFB for one incorperate the Hardcore Torpedo mod, which ups the chances for a malfunction to frustratingly realistic levels. Trigger Maru also ups the malfunction rate but not as much.

What Patch are you running?

This was an issue with earlier version of SH4.

Yes historically accurate...

When the torpedoes data was collected they used dummy warheads for the test. Well guess what the dummy warheads were lighter than the real thing and you can guess the rest.

Its been discussed here many many times actually some funny moments where CiC were insisting that there was nothing wrong with the torpedoes but it was the captains fault.

As these things often happen word got around quickly and the skippers started setting their torpedoes shallower

That's it?! Now i know why the torps are running true but ain't detonating. The blasted fishys keep on bouncing of the lower curve.
It's kinda irritating when the torp should strike home, you ain't getting a "Torpedo is a dud" but nothing happens. They are bouncing or simply passing below.
Well then, you little ships, this evening you're gonna sink!

Don't think it is a bug then... I found odd bugs and watched hundred of fish sail at the completely wrong depths in early versions. But 1.4 is an excellent patch and to be honest, it's hard to fault. Ubi did a great job there.

As a tip, dont worry about hitting the enemy ships below the keel, set them slightly higher than you think you need to, the damage will likely be the same as if you got one right underneath.

It was even more frustrating for the real guys. They didn't have hindsight and had no clue what the problem was; and when they reported the failures the higher-ups accused them of making excuses for bad shooting!

Clear so i use the Mark 10 for now .
Somehow i think my torpedodepth setting is still metric instead of imperial. I set the mark 10 to 6 foot and they just went underneath that nice big merchant????

I tried the TM mod but i didn't like some of the changes. Any other mod suggestions?
