Are we supposed to get any kind of reception at the dock as in SHIII? Thanks,Joe S

Isn't it obvious the game was not finished when Ubi released it. Sorry Ubi had to.

American subs operated from what were considered forward bases. They didn't usually have crowds gathering and bands playing when they came and went. They were much more secretive about it than the Germans...or at least than the Das Boot version. Did the Germans really have crowds and bands? I don't know.

For the Germans large numbers of off-duty military personnel from all services, accompanied by flotilla officers and nurses, would be on hand to meet the returning crews, delivering mail, fruit and drinks to the men once they were mustered off deck.
I think in the US Navy you would just get greeted by some of the brass. Seems like there oughta be a band too though. A brass band? ![]()

I seem to recall that in Pearl the was a reception for the boats (including "Uncle Charlie"). Don't know about the other bases.
Not really a big deal where I am concerned. I think of this more as a "US Submarine Attack Simulator", and not so much as a "US Submarine Returns To Port" simulator. JCC |

For clairfication, I agree 100% with JCC, I am not dissappointed in not having the reception, just wondering if I am missing something. I am all in favor of gameplay as opposed to eye candy, and I thing with the latest patch SHIV has finally achieved superiority of gameplay over eye candy, or at least raised the level of gameplay to that of the eye candy. Not that there isnt still room for improvement, of course, Joe S

Always room for improvement. Otherwise we would still be playing "Gato" on our Amigas!

I can remember my father's ship coming back from the European theatre in April of 1945 after 16 months overseas. My parents were friends of the port admiral so he told us when it was arrriving and my mother blabbed it to the XO's wife, but we were the only three on the dock to welcome it home other than the handling crews. Wartime secrecy was really tight, even a few weeks before VE-Day.

It would be cool to have the option of at least a few Navy tunes being played whislt docking.

You're in the middle of the Pacific who is gonna greet you? Some island tribesmen in canoes? Or maybe some hula dancers.:p
