Ship appears on surface but not on map then lockup!

Hi, running GWX 1.3, I came across a convoy in BE36 & went to PD, after a while I noticed a cruiser, don't know what type as it was dark, strange thing though it didn't show on either maps, couldn't lockon to it either, soon after the PC locked up & had to reset, obviously something wrong!
I was able to go back in on a prior save, take a shot, and edit the gamma:

Could someone give me a hint what to look for?
Many thanks.

This is wierd, these are the closest match. The NCA_Northampton is an addon but the sil tga shows only 1 set of guns to the rear:

The NCL_Fiji is the closest but this is a standard unit .... I think:

I just checked the museum & Fiji displays ok, what would cause it not to show on nav or attack map, or not lockable, very puzzling!
Any ideas welcome?

Hi!

Well, the flag indicates it is a Royal Navy cruiser, so it's not likely a Northampton-class cruiser. It looks to me like it could be a Southampton-class light cruiser if it is not a Fiji-class light cruiser.

@ Pablo, not Southampton, the funnels on that are sloping back!
Bit of an update, 99% sure it's a Fiji class, I couldn't lock due to the fact of it being dark I couldn't see the damn thing, once I got close enough I could see it through the scope, still not shown on map, now as soon as I locked on, it showed on map, by this time it's too late to set TDC, any clues?
Edit: One other important thing, all hydraphones lines are there for all ships including DD's but not to the cruiser.

It is 200% Fuji-class.

NCA_Northampton looks like the one from SH4. I thought I read somewhere that GWX does not use SH4 ships in principle.

It doesn't, but they're available from independent modders.

The more ships/units or other new stuff one adds to SH3, the higher probability for getting strange effects due to the engine design demanding unique digital IDs for most things.

Yep. That's why we run a checker tool to ensure that hex ID's are unique, and to ensure that other elements do not suffer from oversights.

Secondarily, after comparing Fiji and Southampton skins included in version 1.03, it would indeed appear to be a Southampton cruiser.

It most certainly is not a ship model from SH4 if it came from GWX.

This ship is definitely the NCL_Fiji, I don't come across capital ships often, maybe this is why!! In post #3 I mentioned the NCA_Northampton was an addon, only 3 ships have been added & the EnglishNames.cfg file updated to suit! I have them installed with JSGME, I will disable and try again, although a load from mid patrol may not show anything! Please note that I edited a previous post to include this, you may not have seen it:

I checked the museum & shows this to have sloping funnels:

And the Fiji class:

And even then, I can think of a few cases when this kind of checker tools may not help.

Absolutely. Nothing is impervious to the unseen.

@ Reece

No worries. Just reporting what I found that seem to suggest to the contrary is all.

I'm a little puzzled about the usage of 1.03, but that's up to you of course.

Problem is that we don't really have a support mechanism in place for 1.03 nowadays. Every ship in the stable has undergone a number of changes in GWX 2.0 and naturally our focus has shifted to the new/updated data.

Oh I'm just using 1.03 till the patch is released because of the bugs, no I'm not whinging, just being patient!!
1.03 has been very stable, this is the first problem but not sure what it is, maybe a once only glitch, but as I said I don't come across many capital ships to do a compare! I did try copying both the stock & GWX2 NCL_Fiji folder & contents (as JSGME) but both times the problem was the same!

Just an FYI, the only confirmed stability issue we found with 2.0 has already seen a patch release. (armed trawler patch... can be found on our website) No other matter that we've followed up on (and there's been loads of dead-ends that we've chased) has proven to be a game-stopper. If anything, 2.0 would seem to be more stable than 1.03 considering everything that we've sifted through since release.

Most problem reports with 2.0 have stemmed from improper implimentation. (typically incomplete uninstalls followed by reinstallation of SH3+GWX, stock SH3 limitations that we haven't touched, Windows Vista implimentation matters, or mod conflicts) We went through similar phases with every release we've done. (Minus Windows Vista support matters.) String them together and it can certainly generate the impression that there is something deeper going on when there isn't.

Apart from the armed trawler matter, virtually the entire 2.1 build is pretty much only adjustments/refinements.

Apologies if I hijacked your thread. 2.0 really is the better of the two and is much easier for us to help you with if something needs tracking.
