Default Nvidia 7300 Problems....

Hi.

Im running SH3 with the GWX 2.0 mod and after a few minutes in the sim I get video blocks in all colours all over the screen ( like many years ago with graphic card problems ) and the only solution is to reboot. I havent experirenced this in any other sim. Ive changed all nvidia drivers but the same thing is happening, Ive also reinstalled SH3 from DVD and reinstalled GWX 1.2mb. Also I have the 1.4b patch applied
Is there any known tweaks to this problem?

Cheers

I have a 7300 and have no problems with it but it is on my email PC and I would never think of running GWX with it.
Just not up to it or at least at a level I could accept--------IMO

Its really frustrating (as always with these things ) I will re-install SH3 without the GWX mod and see what happens.......can this be a GWX problem? SH4 runs just fine.

SH3 is a graphics intensive game
The engine has been tweaked for SH4

I run a 7300
Try lowering hardware acceleration down a little

Wierd...........I did a re-install of SH3 and the 1.4b patch and it seemed to run fine. Then I put the GWX Mod on and it looked different a bit from before, the dials didnt pop-up (bottom right of screen) I got half way to my search area and #$%%^ the screen went wierd again and I had to reboot. I tried beforehand lowering the accelarator........thanks for that tip, but eventually it didnt help with the problem, as I said SH4 runs fine, but I much prefer the SH3 world .........

PS This has taken up all my play time

There is a possibility that your graphics card is overclocked or overheating and might be already near death.

I run a 7300 gs and it works fine most of the time although sometimes I get some freeze frames.
You should check your card settings, in nvidia control pannel you can customize the card with different settings for each game installed.I ve found that checking the "let the aplication decide settings" tab works better.
Hope this helps

Thanks everybody for the tips. I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of from all the posts and tips and my own knowledge, I have installed and re-installed SH3 and GWX 2, changed Nvidia drivers and tried most nvidia settings and NOTHING helps . I would have blamed the card if I had problems with other sims (including SH4), but I dont...........so in a moment of desperation after spending the last day and many hours into the night I GAVE UP!!!!!!!!!....and this morning I went out and got a new card 8600 GT 512mb.............and you guessed it.........it all works fine now .
I suppose I never will know what the problem was with SH3 and the 7300 GT card...............its a real shame I had to buy a new card, but pleased it all works well now.

Thanks once again everybody for your help

Cheers

What drivers are you running. With that card I would recommend the 91.31 WHQL drivers get them here; http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1415

you may want to follow this procedure; from the control panel use the program removal tool to remove the Nvidia Video Drivers, then reboot, ingnore and say no to all prompts. Then use a driver removal tool like Detonator Destroyer or something similar to remove all instances of Nvidia video drivers left behind, Nvidia drivers are notorious about leaving stuff around and if you install over the top of them you are asking for problems.

Reboot, ignore all install requests. Then execute the new drivers and reboot. Reset the resolution in the Nvidia CP.

That is the procedure that needs to be followed when changing Nvidia video drivers.

Same problem my 300SD would have at the Daytona 500. It is not fast enough to compete.
While SH3 is intensive that applies only to older or smaller PCs. Any new Dual core 512MB VC 2 GB RAM should run it fine AMD2 or Intel.
When you start going back to older tech stuff it gets tricky.
I am a firm believer in being at least 6 months behind because of huge price drops in little time on any hardware.
DX9 cards are cheap right now and even DX10 are not bad considering their performance.
But, anything under $100.00 will likely not do SH3 justice and for those that accept those lower end cards they would not feel that way if they ran a decent card, a world of difference and considering the time we spend in these sims/games the break down in cost per hour is pennies.

The 8600 GT 512mb cost me about 85 euro here in Holland and all the rest in the shop from 128mb to 256mb were from about 30 - 50 euro. So at the end of the day 85 euro isnt too bad for a 512mb card....................BUT.................. .....................its a shame I had to upgrade from the 7300 GT which for me was working fine with the other sims EECH, Lomac, SH4, IL46 ,NHL 2008 etc......Im running a dual core P4 over 3 gig, and 2 gig ram.

Cheers
