Must be a senior moment.. I am getting on a bit you know having been an ensign on the USS C-64.

The trailer however is a new one, I think, for the US release

Tried the demo and liked it. The rescue mission was fun. However I could see tiring of this particular scenario pretty quickly.

What are the detailed missions like? I would like more to do.

That is one of the worst trailers I;ve ever watched.

Performance wise.

The missions are pretty good, the best bit of the game for me is berthing and manoeuvering a good rope system is now in place for warping vessels etc.

A lot of people who haven't played look at the vids etc thinking this is a slow game and you just move a ship from point a to b. Actually in many missions you play all the parts i.e you are controlling not only a freighter but also the pilot boat that must deliver the pilot to the ship, then hop into the two tugs to warp her into berth, then into a crane to unload the cargo! It's really quite involved.

This new version also has multiplayer which is pretty good ...play the freighter and issue orders to other players tugs or one of the tugs, dreading to bump the other player 's ship, that makes it quite tense! Try docking a ferry with twin Voith schneiders while another player waits to get to his berth etc.

Although everyone says "why can't they model the whole world" the answer is really, time and money, even on UBis budget as we have seen in SH4 we get generic ports. VStep has taken a "better to do a small thing well than a big thing badly" approach and made the decision to model a small number of the most important world port areas to a very high level of detail and the environments are I think the perfect size for playability.

Thanks for the details Sonarman. I'll probably pick up a copy of this game in a few months. I thought their ocean and storm rendering was outstanding.
