SH III Will Not Accept 1.4b Upgrade

Hi all!

I couldn't find the answer to this problem in any of the posts, but the 1.4b upgrade will not install.

The message says;

"Silent Hunter III EMEA DVD v1.0 to v1.3 Update Program
This Program cannot update the installed version of SH III EMEA DVD v 1.0 to v1.3 because of the following reason:
C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu\en_help.tx t:unknown version"

I had just installed SH III from a DVD, with a view to installing GWX II, so I am at a loss as to why it won't recognise the file. Yes, I did use the EMEA DVD 1.4b upgrade to match the DVD.

Any help would be appreciated.

Certain files seem to be left behind and need to be manually deleted. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=128846

Once you delete them then you can get the patch to apply.

People who try to install 1.4 patch on a 1.4 allready version got exactly the same message - isn't it your case? Are you sure your install is not 1.4 allready? You can check it by running SH3 and reading the right-bottom version number in the menu screen.

If it's a new disk, it may already be patched....many now are :hmm:

Following your advice, I uninstalled SH III and went into the Program Files to see what was left, and there were 78 kb of data still left. I deleted the folder and reinstalled SH III, and then patched it up without a problem. GWX II then installed, also without a problem, except, I cannot get any voices. I have tried a couple of times changing the voice volume but to no avail, any suggestions?

First thing I would do in go to the sound folder and see if the sounds play. If they do, try screwing around with your settings in the sound card, especially the sound acceleration.
You do have the speakers pluged in and turned on, I assume?
