Loading up a saved game

Folks, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on why some games bomb out the program when you try to load a saved file. Not all, but say 1 out of 8. This has happened from the original SH3 through both GW modded version. I had a GREAT campaign going with the new version of 2.0, had sank 6 large ships and still had torpedoes left, wanted to finish off the current mission then put to port, but to no avail. Now I must go back to my previously saved (same mission) and continue on from there. Very frustrating.
