Default Simple proposal for GWX 2.1 (option)

Well, the art of making goods imulation is: finding a common ground between gloomy reality and game excitement...

GWX periscope is beautiful "metal work" ( congratulations to artist) ...but in a reallity, there is no way that outer frame (circle) would look like that - when you put your eye on it... ( or any other optical tool )

As your eye gets closer - to look trough the optic tool, the outer frame becames dark and blured outer circle, compared to your central field of view (outer world):

On the left sample, there is GWX part of Periscope.tga, and on the right one, is more realistic view trough the periscope ( watching from "closed can" into outer world... )

Just an idea to be considered as possible JGSME option;
... very simple one for "zeiss" artist... but great fun for realism maniacs.

(I did it myself for the original periscope, but GWX *tga seems to have different mixture of transparency channels and layers :hmm: )

Sorry you've gone so long with no response, mate.

The problem with changing elements of the interface, is that it often confuses people... so we've become more and more reticent to change things relating to it.

We've already got one included optional interface. (The Integrated Orders mod.)

Secondarily, Onelifecrisis and JoeGrundman have built a great interface mods as add-ons for GWX.

Poor Sailor also intends to release his interface changes soon.

Options will be available mate... but to make everyone happy... we'd make ourselves unemployed.

Kapt.

Isn't that just the truth, there just so many great Mod option's out there it is just incredible.

As to the above post; I have never stuck my face into a real periscope, but if one were to would it not be like looking into any other ocular device....you don't really see it.....

Hhmm... Just noticed that SH4 has the full reallity periscope.
...by reading the thread on this page... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=129424

It's the same thing with all the optical tools; microscope, sniper, binocular, theodolite for chart making (made also by Carl Zeiss)...etc.

I would like to know the name of GWX periscope artist... all it takes is 5 min. :
- to select the frame circle
- decrease Contrast -40%
- decrease lightness -30%
- hit 2-3 times Add more blure

But, one should know the trasparency structure and layers of the GWX Periscope.tga

Fortunatelly, vanilla *.tga works fine with GWX, so I just use my modified stock scope...

Many Thanks for kind offer, mate... but there is no need to upload, for me, I use my own...

Just thought that supermod, that increases realism in hundreds of sim. details, could do it in a main detail - periscope.

My proposal was just for that GWX art, to get darker&blured "sister option" in JGSME...

It's a matter of taste I guess. But I really don't get why blur would be more realistic. In a real uboat you would either look through the scope, and at that point you don't see it at all, or be far enough away from it for it to be sharp. With blur it would be something like looking at at scope from 5-6 cm distance, and when would a captain ever do that?

Thats right, 5-6 cm in reallity...

Real look would be wide black/blured inside...
It would also be OK for me... but too much for most of members.

Introducing a full reality in GWX featurs - would cause Kapt.Lehman to be hanged on the nearest tree... does not fit in PC game

Just as hollywood pictures portrait them, in real life when using optic devices (microscopes, binoculars, telescopes) you don't see a dark round shape in your field of view, just make a test, drill a small hole in a cardboard and look through it, while you decrease the distance between your eye and the hole the round dark shape surrounding it dissapears, if you wan't to simulate real life what needs to be done is to get rid of all UI elements in the scope view.

Let's make this short and clear:

1) This is a real thing...

2) Actually, FEELING is great and it DOES TURN ME ON

3) But, if other people do not wish alternative JGSME view, that is fair enough, let them play what they want...

I'll try with my colleagues (from marketing department) to demistify GWX structure and make my own reality eye candy...

Good hunting to all the members and let the "pack" work on something useful...

Well that's a periscope view captured by a camera after it went though the lens in the camera. It's not the same as what you see when you put your own eye to that periscope. The most realistic view we can get in a game like this is to have as little black as possible showing. The observation scope in OLC GUI is the best example I have seen so far. Your screen is already taking up a very small part of your field of vision, there is absolutely no reason (if realism is the concern) to lessen that field even further by adding large black areas around it.

Edit: Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. My point was that the most realistic scope view is when it fills your whole screen, no black at all or maybe just a tiny bit in the corners. You can't use a brush in a picture editor to achieve that.

Wrong mate,... it takes 2 min. to clear or even widen internal circle... transparency brush...

Do not worry about view field...
