Default Silent Service - Google Video

Hi!

Sometimes you can find interesting stuff on the internet:

History Channels TV serie Silent Service about the US Submarine War in the Pacific during WW2.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=4

This one is about the torpedos:

Attack plans:

Looking good, I´ll have to buy this on DVD

For $50 you can buy all 4 DVDs from the History Channel on-line store.

You get a DVD on the boats of WW2. one on the captains, one on the torpedos and one on attack tactics. Almost 4 hours .

Well worth the money.

In case you're wondering where they did the inside shots...

Some of them were taken at the USS Cod.

Looks good eh?

groetjes,

Why not add the links to your pacific war topic?

Unfortunately, the visual quality of Google video (and Youtube) is vey low. Does anyone have a link to a downloadable *.AVI or *.WMV version? I'm really only interested in a few clips/sequences from the video, not all four hours of the DVD series.

Had to snicker about people wondering if the torpedo failure rate in RFB is too high while watching the account of the Tinosa. Can't even imagine the sense of frustration with firing 6 fish at a taker with only one explosion which put her DIW, and 12 after the tanker was DIW with no detonations.

Thats a failure rate of 94%!!! Although a failure rate that high was unusual, people wondering if a failure rate as low as 40% or as high as 80% (as some people playig RFB have reported at times) in RFB is historical only need to watch that video.

Wow!

A great find that certainly belongs in Ducimus' stickied thread. The amazing thing to me was that we made such a huge impact with less than 300 submarines. Then you have to almost totally discount their effectiveness while firing defective torpedoes for two years. STILL they sank 55% of the tonnage total for the war.

Great find!

Anti -pixelating mode for free: Peer with your eyes and don´t sit so close to the screen while watching.

Hope it helps

Most of the video I did not fully watch but I listened to every word and to me it was like good old radio. I very much enjoyed both videos.

If the devs would have followed torpedo history to the letter UBI would have really lost sales in SH4. Most of the gamers today want it yesterday.

A very good find.

Nice video, crappy quality though. Sound and image is out of sync, too. Still enjoyed watching it!
