http://itotd.com/articles/509/vegeta...s-diesel-fuel/
also a top gear video anyone here try running veg. oil in their diesel cars?? from what ive read the only downside is that the oil is alot thicker and needs to be heated up before its atomized for it to burn.. i watched a friend of mine pour in a few liters of vegetable oil into his half filled tank.. he drives a 1999 jetta TDI.. he poured in some additive (forgot which one) to make the oil thiner.. he says for the past 3 weeks hes been getting better mileage then ever before... anyone else try this ?? how about a medium duty truck?? :hmm: |

My olds recently bought a 2.0 TDI Jetta, (took it for a spin last time i visited, runs like a beauty, too!)
But i dont see them being happy if I were to suggest throwing vegetable oil into the tank. Id want to see substantive proof from VW that yes, vegie oil will run perfectly well and not harm the engine before i even suggested it to them. |

Here in the states, we have biodiesel made from soybeans. Also, there is the diesel that you can make from recycled vegetable fat. Depending on where you get the used oil will depend on what the exhaust smells like.

Older mechanically fuel-injected engines will run quite happily on veg oil (with a small percentage of normal diesel added to the mix) however many of today's more complex diesel engines could suffer damage to things like the fuel injectors and the high pressure injection pump; mainly this is due to the higher manufacturing tolerances in these components these days.
Like the old leaded petrol engines, some parts of diesel engine systems rely on the natural lubrication properties of diesel fuel to prevent parts suffering from excessive wear. So don't make the mistake of putting unleaded into your modern diesel by mistake then driving it - you will kill the injection pump because the petrol will act as a solvent and strip all of the lube from inside the pump. If the pump itself doesn't completely fail the at the least you run the risk of bits of metal getting stuck in the injector nozzles. Which will knacker them!

I almost forgot to post something regarding American Farmers.
Bio Willie We have an ethanol plant roughly 20 minutes from where I live. In fact, the neighboring county's claim to fame is "The Biofuel capital of Missouri". We also have a group of Christians who make their own biofuel along with other renewable Energy alternatives. Missouri Renewable Energy A Division of New Life Evangelistic Center |
