Default After Loading, My Sub Takes Damage!

I saved the game, after destroying two unescorted merchant ships, in deep water. When I loaded the game, I got an immediate message that I was taking damage. Looking around, there were no other enemy ships around. I was suddenly faced with 17% hull damage, that was irreperable, throughtout the entire patrol.

Is there a certain time when I should save my game...before or after an attack on the enemy?

I made it back to Freemantle, but I surely don't want to go through that again!!

Oh, and I have only the latest patch installed. No mods, yet.

Default Yup

I've heard the crew say "taking damage" on reload in open ocean, but never checked the percentage (hate that thing) to see if it was real. I've been assuming it's not true because every once in awhile I'll hear them say "passing thermal layer" during reload and I'm on the surface.

I'm still PO'd about that hull damage meter. Where's my @#%@# crew dirty underwear meter???

I get the same message when I load a saved game - "We're taking damage!!"

I dont think you actually get any damage though - I check everytime and the boat seems to be ok.

All depends. If you sub was damaged before the save, upon reload, the sub is returned back to the damaged state and this includes the 'we are taking damage' and the noises associated with the damage.

If you were not damaged, I'm not sure. It is always best to save away from other ships and also save will on the surface. Although SH4 saves are not as buggy as SH3 is, it still does screw up sometimes.

I have had this message too, but I checked my hull damage. It was still on zero so you don't take any damage at all.

If I take damage during a patrol and load after it, then it says I'm taking damage. (As soon as the "please wait" screen goes away)

The lights flicker too. But I've never been faced with actually BEING damaged randomly...
