Default Graphics Settings Surprise need other opinions

I have been playing Falcon 4.0 Red Viper for a the last couple of days since I read about it in one of the threads in here and I Have been Mesing around with my graphics settings just to see what the diffrences were in the game, this is my system

Intel Quad core Q6600
3 Gig Ram
GeForce 8800GTS
500 GB HD

I run the game with Red Viper, graphics maxed out at 1024X768 and there are parts that are sluggish so I wondered what would happen if I changed the resolution to 1600X1200 (keep in mind my desk top display was set at 1024X768) I had to make monitor adjustments but aside from the graphics being Awesome it was no more or less sluggish it stayed relatively the same so then I changed my desk top to 1600X1200 and went back into the game (game still maxed and at 1600X1200) and it was a whole new Game! graphics still frikken awesome!! but no slug, not even a tad, no lines, nothing just smooth flying, SO I tried the same in SH4 and I didn't notice any great diffrence though I must say I have never had an ounce of problems out of SH4 graphic resolution wise, either playing it at 1024X768 or 1600X1200 I had no idea that having your desktop and game setting the same could make such a diffrence, is this normal and I just never new about, so should there be any diffrence between the two in SH4?
