While sailing en route to patrol area just a short time before sunrise i encoutered a 6800 ton British Ore Carrier moving slowly toward NNE in grid square BF48. Conditions were perfect with clear skies and calm seas. The seascape only lighted by the thousands of twinkling stars hovering overhead. I had considered a surface attack, but the sky was beginning to show a bit of light and i didnt want to spoil the element of surprise so i submerged and watched the ship through the observation scope. For several minutes i ploted his position on the nav map and established a bast line for his estimated course. creeping to within 700 meters of his estimated course i sat there, coasting at one knot like a trap door spider waiting to pounce on his unsuspecting prey. I could practically hear myself as a real u-boat commander determining the firing solution. "Prepare tubes 2 and 3 for submerged firing, impact pistols, 3 meter depth, 2 degree spread angle..." "Target bearing 330 degrees" "Range 1100 meters" "Speed... 3 knots" "Angle on bow..46 degrees" "tubes 2 and 3 LOS!" i watched anxiously through the observation scope as the torpedoes struck their target one after the other. The sea sprayed skyward as the mighty trident of Neptune plunged through the belly of our target. she began to zig zag as her speed decreased to zero, listing to starboard. There was no fire, and no visible explosion even though several secondaries could be heard. As the stern began to slowly sink beneath the surface a massive plume of fire and smoke belched skyward. She rolled hard to 90 degrees starboard and began to sink rapidly. the fire crept forward, and just as the bow began to dissappear beneath the surface another massive mushroom cloud erupted toward the sky. the only thing missing was the screaming men... swimming, taking to life rafts, jumping overboard and running on deck. (figure that one out and SH3 will surely live forever) "Back slow" i ordered... i didnt want to risk damage from the explosions that were growing ever larger. as the ship fell beneath the sea, except for the floating debris... you would have never known there was ever even a ship there at all. Nice one GR! I'm currently getting to grips with GWX2 with OLC GUI and I have to say it does make for a far easier manual firing set up than paper plotting. Love your work fellas!
