crash to desktop
vista home, gateway gm5420 pc, (2) 1.86 Pentium processors, 128MB(I think) VC w/shading 3.0, 2 GB DDR. The game starts fine, but when I pick anything from the menu other than control room or navigation, CRASH TO DESKTOP. Also, this happens when trying a quick mission, museum, and career. Is is Vista? Is it my machine? TIA.

It does sound like a driver problem. Make sure ALL your drivers (chipset, sound, video) are all latest versions. Make sure you are DX9.0c or later. Did you let the game install DX for you? It's best to make sure you have the required version before install and don't let the game installer update it. Last but not least, try re-installing the game fresh after a uninstall and try it unmodded 1st for a while before you throw mods at it.
Make sure your system is running clean without viruses and spyware before you start the install. Disable virus and spy checking programs for the duration of the install. -Pv- |

I did let the game install 9.0. I will try to see if I have the latest drivers for my intel vid card. I know I have the latest sound drivers. Isn't it kinda strange though, that it lets me start the game, and see 2 of the screens, but nothing else? Thanks for the help so far. I don't have any viruses, or anti virus software running.

Exactly what model of video card is in there? I'll bet that is key to the problem. The "128mb (I think)" sounds like a potential deal-killer.
I just went to Gateway for a visit and it is as I feared. The video is on-board and the "Up to 256MB Shared Video Memory" is using your system RAM. This just won't run Silent Hunter 4. You do have a PCI-e slot for a video update. Our experience is that the lowest graphics you should consider (in nVidia anyway) is the GeForce 7600GT card.
