Light And Colour Settings Problem...

hi hunters

just got a flat screen, an Acer x193w, very nice too. but, i can not seem to find a happy balance between my desk top colour settings and in-game. at night for example in the game i can not see anything on screen, maybe a few pin ***** stars thats all.
i can adjust the screen by its own settings and i can adjust the settings on the graphics card nvid/gforce 7900 gs. but i can not find a happy medium.

during the day in sh3 it seems fine, but at night i can not see a thing outside on the bridge - and yet my desk top looks ok...

do any of you have an idea what i could do with regard to settings, like update graphics card driver, or.....??

edit: err... ive just taken my own advice - updated the g/card driver, made a few minor adjustments too. it's not perfect but it is workable and i can see !! so, if any of you were about to help - go ahead i could still use it, gratefully !
