SH3 skin pack is it GWX2 compatable

Hi, I was using a very large skin pack with my old SH3 Commander & GWX 1.03, is this compatable with GWX2, probably been asked before but couldn't find.
I would assume that being just skins that it would be ok. Yes ... No!

Are the skins DAT files or are they TGA files?
If they're TGA's then you're good to go.

NO!!! (sorry for shouting)

It contains MANY .dat files that need to be repacked/replaced before it can work with GWX 2.0 forward.

Using it WILL break various ships in your game causing immobility and/or indestructability for starters.

Virtually EVERY ship .dat file in GWX 2.0 forward has been reworked for incomplete reflections and other matters.

You SHOULD NOT use the last release of the GWX skin pack for SH3 Commander.

We will replace it when we get around to it. It will be done, but there is not rush on this project. Sorry mates.

@Reece if you need other skins for GWX2 try VIID_play3_alpha skin by Tomi 099 compatible with gwx. Works well.

First post on here so be easy on me!!

Is this referring to the DATE folder on commander? I believe that loads in the correct skins depending on the date you're playing in career mode.

GWX2 has crashed several times during gameplay after waiting ages for commander to copy the date based files into the game. Whereas when I've bypassed commander and just gone straight in with gwx it works fine.

Sorry if I'm not grasping this correctly but is this the same thing as you're talking about here?

Great mod by the way!!

Welcome.

There are 2 skin packs for SH3 Commander, the first you mention and the second is a skin pack for stock SH3 (+other versions).

Currently, both versions are NOT compatible with GWX 2.0. As you have found, you will get CTD's.

Besides, apart from the historical date aspect, the skins in GWX 2.0 are superior to the ones in the skin packs.

Thanks for the reply.

So gwx2.1 skins are correct for time period I might be playing in.

i.e One ship might be green in 41 but grey in 44 and gwx will reflect this??

I no longer have to mess around waiting for commander to copy files into the game now then.

This game/mod is quite addictive.

I've read tons about ww2 but always skipped over the war at sea for some reason.

However thanks to picking up this game for a tenner and finding this mod I've not only had some good hours of gameplay but it opens up a whole load of history that I've took little notice of before.

Thanks Chaps.

I'll be back no doubt with another silly question soon!!!

The skins in GWX 2.0 are designed around mid/late war period. They will not change based on date as SH3 has no function to do this. That is why SH3 Cmdr is used.

I suggest you remove the skin pack from Sh3 Cmdr but keep using the program as it adds too much to ignore.

Like KL has said in this post, a fully compatible date based skin will/may be made however, it's entirely down to the originator of the mod and his realife comitments.
