Default SH4 and NVidia GeForce 8500 GT

Ahoy there m8! I recently installed SH4 and to tell you the truth I'm a bit disappointed at how the game looks. Running a resolution of 1440x900 and have all settings to high the game still looks fuzzy and jagged lines abound. Even with AA enabled on my card. Does anyone know how to set it up so all the nice eye candy is available? And why can't I activate the radar in the early missions? I installed patch 1.4 and the switch won't move.

about the radar only,
its because you dont have one installed
once you install one you will be able to turn it on

you install it in your office, by clicking on the sub but not all subs can do it

Thanks. Didn't know that. Thought the sub came with a built in radar.

Just the way the developers did it. Not the greatest but it is what it is. Did you force AA on your card?

With an 8500 GT, you'll never get things running nice and smoothly with "all the nice eye candy". I know, I had an 512Mb VRAM 8500 GT for awhile and it just cannot cut it. You will have to turn of things like "volumetric fog", "full screen glare", "pp-filters", "environmental effects" and likely set your sliders to middle or lower.

I traded my 8500 GT for a 512MB 8600 GT (mildly overclocked), and things got considerably better. But, even with the 8600 card, volumetric fog is a fps killer.

On the graphics options screen, I have all the boxes on the far right checked (except for vert. sync, as it makes no difference on my rig). The middle boxes, all I have checked is "environmental effects". I have the top 3 sliders all the way to the right, and the lower 3 are at the game defaults.

With that, I can get 45-50+ fps on the bridge, and 40-45+ fps with the external camera views. Although heavy action (several explosions, fires and such in frame at the same time) will drop fps to 20-30.

AMD Athlon 64x2 4800+ (650Watt Antec TruePower Trio power supply)

PNY 512Mb VRAM GeForce 8600 GT/OC
Samsung 216BW at 1680x1050 (widescreen)
Vista Home Premium (32 bit)

P.S. I traded my 8500 GT and a couple of other things (old HD and old 430watt power supply I had sitting around) for the 8600 GT from someone who was replacing the 8600 GT with a new 8800 GT. The 8800 GT is one of the best price-versus-performance options currently available, IMO. When they become a little more readily available (most everyone seems out of stock right now), I think I might get one - very reasonable priced at $170-$200 and darn near the performance of the MUCH more expensive 8800 big boys.

Well, Seafarer I do not have any frame rate problems with SH4 at all, In fact the 8500 GT works fine (although I'll be upgrading to either an 8800 GT or Ultra soon depending on the cash at hand). The problem is that there are jagged lines on objects, even on all settings high and all boxes checked. I'll check the settings on the card itself and turn off overriding AA, etc.

The Nvidia panel will solve your problems just overide and make a profile specific to SH4.

I run a 7950 GT OC, with maxed out AA and AF. SH4 in 1280 by 960 32 bit, all sliders to the right and all boxes checked, runs smooth in all situations. No jaggies.

Looks like you are running an LCD/flat screen with that resolution? Thats no factor just curious.

You might want to switch and play around with different driver versions. I have had a devil of a time getting with 1xx.xx series drivers to work for me so I run some older 9x.xx WHQL and these run smooth on my system.

Good luck man....it sometimes takes some tweaking.

Oh you may want to just post your complete system specs as this will help the tech gurus here in providing feedback on your issues.

I run the game on a 19" Widescreen LCD Panel at 1440x900 resolution.

My specs are:

NVidia GeForce 8500 GT w/512mb Memory.
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 4400+
2 GiG Corsair DDR2 RAM
500W Power Supply

I have the NVidia control panel set on Quailty. I'll play around with the settings and see. Thanks Wilcke and others for helping out.

Silly me. Yes, DeadEye I did configure the .exe on the card and now everything looks great! No jaggies and all's well. It was a simple solution I overlooked. Thanks everyone for helping.

Just another instance where someone didn't blame Ubi or the devs, respected SUBSIM and asked for help. Complainers! Please note the result of this enlightened strategy. If you ask for help here you'll be playing the game with a smile on your face shortly. Thanks DavyJonesFootlocker for giving us the opportunity to show what SUBSIM is worth.
