Default 2 x T problems

Tactical + Technical

Hi Fellow Kauliens

1st TACTICAL
Enjoyed GWX so far (3rd career)
Presently on 2nd patrol (AM23 just completed) late 1939 when I am Radio contact about "Task Force" coming out SW through the "Irish Sea"
Decide "You win some you lose some " and sail south for possible interception
As luck would have it, come into 20 km of "convoy" (save)
I'm in mountainous seas,Time is 23.55, there are 20+ ships in convoy
Went in...Total disaster...cant see more than 1 target at a time(and whaler ships are crushing me )
Ive kept ahead of the convoy for 3 days..weathers not breaking
Tried running "decks awash" and DDs are taking bets on how few shells it takes to sink me

Is it ...I've LOST this 1 better luck next time ?????

2nd TECHNICAL
Thoroughly enjoying this game as I do
Game played great but slow on multiple explosions etc

I upgraded my PC from 1GB memory to 3 GB memory
Problem was ......My PSU (250 )was on its way out
Replaced with 450w PSU
GC is Nv6200 Turbo
Now....
I'm getting tearing on the graphics(runs great when it loads properly on Mods like SH4 for SH3 Thanks Racerboy )
Freezes when loading
My crew occassionly standing with arms outstreched at loadup
HELP...
HELP...
HELP...

Thanks in advance

Default Haggis is delightful

My 2 cents...sorry...pence in Scottish:

If the ocean looks more like mountains...go elsewhere. It's '39...there's more to be had somewhere else. Abandoning 20 ships, especially if there are whalers among them is a bummer, but time's on your side. With those early war torpedoes...I wouldn't place any bets on their reliabilty either.
Each time that I've gone after a convoy in weather like that I find that the ships themselves are as much as a threat as the escorts. I can't see them until their 400 meters away and heading right for me. Either way, I don't like wasting the torpedoes on targets that I can only guess at.
Put down the periscope, plow down to 40 meters or so...nice and slow. Put on some tea and wait until the hydrophone goes silent. Then...wait out the storm. When the seas are nice and flat...you can go sink some bad guys ninja style (i.e. dead seven times before they hit the floor).

Technical question: Go and ask another Yak...I have no idea.

Happy Hunting.

P.S. - Are you using GWX 2.0 or the older one? I don't know if it has changed, but I believe that the previous version (1.03) still had random weather patterns. Not too important...but at least the crappy weather isn't your fault. In fact, I think that if you load as a saved game, the weather could change (a tactic that I believe was also employed by the more successful kauliens during the real war). Maybe somebody with a clue could verify that for me.

Yech'ed Mat.

well, the weather can also be your friend. Just yesterday i followed a convoy (not a fast task force though) for a day until it got dark. Weather was bad (wind 15, overcast, but no rain) and sight bad too. I had my best watch crew on deck and used auto-mapping. This enabled me to get in good firing position withing the convoy and shot a Nelson-type battleship with 4 eels from 500m - at least 2 critical hits and the BB went down in 30secs. I went deep and silent and the destroyer didnt have a clue where i was because of the heavy see. He didnt drop a single deapth charge!
in a nutshell: if the weather is bad but good enough that you can track your targets to get in good firing position, you have better chances to survive after your attack, cause the sea is "loud"
i play GWX 1.3 with >70% realism (use only auto mapping and auto targetting) and DiD

"I'm getting tearing on the graphics" - try enabling/forcing vertical sync through you Nvidia Control Panel.

"Freezes when loading" - Did you make sure that you got the correct type/speed of RAM? If they all aren't at the same speed, it causes problems... Also, how fast is your processor. If it isn't very fast, 3 GB is way too much RAM for your system to handle.

On the "Tactical " side
Thank you very much Kauliens Breaking contact with this target

On the "Tech" side

The RAM is same DDR2 2x1GB + 2x512MB(original)
Tried Forcing Vertical Sync(made load up problem worse)
So...PCU is looking like weak link
Not at my PC at moment but guess its low end in that area as well
What do you recommend (prepared to spend)

Thanks

Very wise imo, unless you are a master with the hydrophone.

Well the q6600 and ram is dirt cheap right now , to be honest to spend cash on anything else would be a waste of cash imo.
so just spend a bit on the MO and you should be good to go!
should be abl;e to find a decent MB for 200 , 300 for proc , and a hun for ram !
WTF im a bilge rat ..... some way to wecome a guy to the forums !!!!!!!!!!!!
