Calculating Range

I have a problem calculating the range. I see the enemy target I lock it using the L key. I open the recognition manual and identify it. Click on the check mark. So far so good. I use the stadimeter to send the estimate range to the TDC, still the target is lock. I click the black button on the tool and I see a double image. I am supposed to align them, how? When may I hit the red button? I do not get this right. Any solutions. Thanks

The double image is what creates the range, which is then sent to the TDC via the red button.
Set the waterline of one image to the top mast of the other and then click the mouse. You now have a range figure which can be sent to the TDC via the red button. Check out the tutorials:

Hope that helps.

I tried them. However, I was not able to see them. It seemed that they weren't there. Thanks

I was wondering, since there is some variation in ship draft due to the cago it carries, would it be more sensible to align with the area on the hull where the colour changes (ie from black to red) instead of the waterline. That is if the colour change is supposed to mark where the waterline is supposed to be.

If you then use one of the map tools and run a line from your position to the target's position on the map, it will tell you the range in yards (if you have Imperial checked)

If you have Map Update on, then over a short period of time you can track the ship course/heading.

Then you can deternine the target's distance traveled over time and calculate speed.

All that's left is AOB which is fairly evident using either the Map or Attack map.

Plop all this data into the TDC and you're set. Don't even have to use the periscope view.

Seems to me...

BTW, I just posted a thread about an easy way to calculate speed if your interested.

what i mean is that you wouldnt know where the ship was on the map unless you have the pericope up. Maybe you have map contact updates on, I dont.
