Does anyone here listen to minimalist music?

I have been a classical music fan since my early teens but one music category that I have not dabbled in is the minimalist genre. Can anyone direct me on where is a good place to start or particular composers and pieces of music that I should look for? Thanks.

Some days ago I just had downloaded some pieces and albums by Peter Horton.

Austrian, now living in Germany. Appeared on stage in the 70s, two TV music shows of very sophisticated quality in the 80s. Plays the guitar like a devil, if he wants, studied concert guitar in Stuttgart, Rio de Janeiro, Carracas. Is a trained opera singer (never did that, though), has written many geman chansons and sung them himself (great voice of his, and very beautiful prose). Performed on stage with stars like Placido Domingo and Peter Schreier. Published several books with prose. Several tours in Germany, Europe, North America, South Ameirca. Over 2000 concerts, most of them with pianist Slava Kantcheff.

The music he does today, is very different to his early years, and very meditative, and of beautiful melodiousness. The guitar is no longer dominant. You can try the 30 sec trailers for some of his pieces here:

together with Slava Kantcheff:

And a more vivacious album from the late 80s, together with German guitar virtuoso Siegfried Schwab:

Fine man, great musician, true aesthete. I was in one of his concerts - one of the greatest nights in my life. Very, very special, and intimate. Totally different, but only Dido's concert and Riverdance left me as impressed, if considering all life concerts I ever visited.

maybe not truly minimalistic music, but close to it.

another name is Gavin Bryars, but his pieces are a mixed back imo.

Ok thanks Skybird. I'll look into Slava Kantcheff and Peter Horton. Another name that keeps popping up in my search is composer Philip Glass. :hmm:

Phillip Glass is a good start. Also Steve Reich and Milton Babbitt are two others (serialists, actually) that have had a tremendous impact on minimalism.

Check out Milton Babbitt's Philomel. Very cool stuff.
