Default Original SH3 no mods question

I have been trying to find a mod that will quiet down the background roaring noise that is suppose to simulate something to do with what a submarine sounds like to someone.
The engine noise I can handle, but that background roaring noise is to much for my ears. It really has taken the fun out of the game because as soon as I turn the engines on I just have to turn the sound off and that ruins the game play.

On this laptop I can only run the standard SH3 & Commander because of minimum specs. I only play it on the weekends & the rest of the time I use my main computer & the GWX mod which has the hearing impared mod on it that has really improved that for me. the hearing impared mod on the standard SH3 doesn't seem to take the background noise out completely.
Lilke in the command center when you make a change & the guy turns to the wall & speaks...I get no sound at all froml him...just a loud roar of noise..

I thought that someone along the way would have modded that noise lower to some extent...

Doesn't that sound like a large problem that isn't supposed to be there to you? I don't know what roar you're talking about at all. I do have one or two annoyances with the sound levels in the game, but the only times that I refer to are when you go on deck and the waves and voices go up about twice as loud as when you were standing in the command room. Inside the sub the engines go from being a quiet ambient hum to a slightly louder whirring hum. If your crew aren't saying anything but "roaaaaar!" when they talk, then somethings wrong, so I don't know, consider posting a short recording or explaining in more detail and giving your specs so someone who knows their stuff can help you.

Just as an indicator, if you haven't messed with the volume dials the loudest thing you will hear are voices. I've never had them be drowned out by something else before.

Humm.. as Capa states its a noise thats not suspose to there ... I never heard a roar either ... one mod you might like ( and one I always load at any new install ) is
SHIII Internal Life Mod Version 1.2 by Derek

From the read me file : " ...- a 10.5minute seemlessly looping track containing sounds of human habitation. Over 27 tracks featuring footsteps, pages being flipped, muted conversation (taken from Das Boot), sounds of writing, creaks and groans from the sub (again taken from Das Boot), have been mixed together for this mod. I have removed the loudest sounds from the previous version as this file will continue to play when the boat is in silent running. A special added bonus to this version is the debut performance of me, starring as a cough, a sniff and my speciality a tired exhalation of breath..... "

I think its avaible from http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ but maybe someone will come along that has a different link

Read a couple of posts about this sound problem the past couple of days.

If it's the problem I'm thinking of I had this happen to me a couple of times. It's the sound of the ocean during rough weather - rather loud - no matter what station you are in.

I think it had something to do with going to my desktop from external view (maybe it only happened during storms?). But yes, as said, if it's this sound you are talking about it is an audio problem and I doubt any mod will fix it.

UMfuld...yeah, this is a wierd problem.
for instance, In the command room, if I give a command to change speed their is no sound that comes out of the helmsmans mouth. I can point to another part of lthe sub and he is just bearly audible. put it in the hydrophone guys room and change speeds and the voice is clear as a bell..

I know it should sound as you describe it and if others have the same sound then it is something with my game install peerhaps, but this is about the 4th reinstall with the same problem.

It really is a bummer. I went into the data/sound area and just took some specific sound files out & it helped somewhat, but Idon't think that is the problem.

I can't see how it would be a driver problem because movies ...i.e. "das boot" play just great & have fine sound. very high graphics movies play and sound fine.

its really driving me crazier...

Don't forget, a game is far more taxing on hardware than a movie. Movies are made of linear audio and video tracks, so you never get errors or hardware problems with those unless they're recorded in a format you don't have the codec for. All the sounds are compressed into one long "song" and played alongside the images. Sims and games are basically what graphics and sound cards exist for, and any driver issues will almost always arise with those as opposed to anything else. They all work differently with their own library of hundreds of files and code, and it's very easy to either purposefully or inadvertently screw up its stability.

Really though it doesn't sound like drivers. It is odd that reinstalling doesn't fix it though. Just some good practice with a computer that runs demanding things like this is to defragment around once a month and be careful when changing or deleting game files. Most games will cough and die if they notice one changed item that isn't done by a modder who knows what he's doing, but that doesn't matter here since you have your cd's and can reinstall.

If you're not that experienced with modern sims and games on a PC you're lucky, it's a constant battle between man and machine to make them all work to your taste/at all.
