I am really getting into SC/DW these days and I am playing through all the third party stuff. I got three four categories of stuff to play through: SC 1.08, SCXIIC, DW-LWAMI subs, and DW-LWAMI non-subs. I am still in going through the SC 1.08 missions at the moment.
At some point, I think I want to go in there and start doing my own missions. I understand how the editor works reasonable well as I am often looking at how missions were put together. For me, when I go for it, a big question will be should I go for SCXIIC or DW-LWAMI? It seems that the DW mission editor has some more advanced features over the SC editor with the absence of being able to test for user actions. Like I just heard of how sprint/drift could be easily done with a script. My goal would be to produce highly dynamic missions such that being their author does not deter me from playing them. So, first, if I was only making these for myself, then should I still go with DW or are there reasons to stick with SCXIIC? So, second, if I plan to share my work would it be preferable to go with DW? It seems that the community is more active than SC. However, SC missions can be converted whereas the reverse is not true. But for SCX, I get the impression that SCX missions are not available to new SC owners via NCP, because SCX cannot be installed to NCP. Comments? Thanks.

If you ask me - go with DW. As you said, short of detecting user actions you have a lot more tools in the DW Toolbox (better Sonar modell and so on) compared to SC. Furthermore, with more and different playable platforms you are able to cater to a wider crowd ... not everybody sticks to subs like they are the holy grail.
They only thing in my eyes that SC has going for it at the moment is the SCU and the "ability" to play more subs then with stock SC. But if you ask me ... aside from the difference SSN/SSK and SSN/SSBN(SSGN) there is no real difference in the game (SC with SCU) except maybe differing labels ... a SSN is a SSN ... it might be not an US or Russian one but they way you use it is still the same. Bottom line ... go with DW. |

Although there are still plenty of SC players, I think youll get a wider audience with DW, so even if you discount the other advantages, it's probably still the wiser choice.
