Default grid reference help

lo all

was reading a thread the other day about juicy convoy grids in the north atlantic.....the author was saying something like " go to be39-33 to be39-77"
my map doesnt have anything more that be39... is there an updated map that has these other smaller sectors in???:hmm:

The last set of numbers (i.e BE3933) are the reference within BE39.

So, when your map is zoomed out and you can see BE39, start zooming in and the grid will eventually start showing smaller squares. Those little squares represent the second set of numbers.

Basically, grid BE39 is divided into a further 99 parts. The SH3 Map doesn't show this with numbers but you can take your best guess.

Technically:
Grid BE is divided into 9 boxes - e.g. BE3x
Box 3 is divided into another 9 boxes - e.g BE39x
Box 39 is divided into another 9 boxes - e.g BE393x
Box 393 is divided into another 9 boxes - e.g BE3933

This process can go on forever. It's just a very accurate way of conveying a specific location.

As I said the SH3 Map will not number these but you can work it out.

There maybe some kriegsmarine map floating about that show the 4 figure references but I don't have the links.

Confused? So am I.

Would it be possible to mod the numbers into the game? Or maybe make an overlay with the squares marked (this would only work for a specific zoom level though)?

I printed out one like this, then adjust my map zoom so it fits, lay it alongside the screen and write the complete grid in my log!

There is no such map yet.
You have to eyeball it, which is fairly easy once you get the hang of it.
You can always use the drawing tools to make it easier.

The KM grid ingame isnt editable
Which is a pity as could have been extended to cover the rest of the world

That´s too bad.

How about an overlay like the dropdown map and the other stuff? If it´s possible to make it transparent and mark the different grid numbers on it, then you could pull it over the grid (again, would only work on one zoom level) and see the exact grid number.

Unfortunately it would also only work at one part of the map - due to the projection style the grid squares are different shapes in different parts of the world.

I knew there were some kind of problem, otherwise it would have been done already.
